Plastic-free groceries? These startups are trying to make it happen

A feature piece in Sifted this week dug into the reality, and opportunity, of creating a plastic-free grocery ecosystem in Europe.
According to the piece by Sarah Drumm, ”37% of food sold at European supermarkets is covered in plastic. That includes a whopping 17.7bn wrappers for fruit and veg in the UK alone.”
As Sarah highlights, innovative new startups are tackling this momentous problem, including our portfolio company, The Modern Milkman.
According to The Modern Milkman CEO, Simon Mellin, in 2020 the company’s revenues grew by 1,100%, and it’s aiming for another eight-fold increase this year. An incredible feat by any measure – and we couldn’t be prouder!
