Our managing partners Patrick Sheehan & Rob Genieser contribute to Real Deals Media 500th issue, GP Workshop: How to appeal to LPs!

Patrick and Rob join Andrew Steele, managing partner at Cairngorm Capital Partners LLP, and Thomas Bill, managing director at Monterro, to discuss the key ingredients for a strong fundraising strategy and how it has evolved.

According to Rob and Patrick, “The foundations of a successful fundraising are traditionally based on good historic returns. A framework of good relationships then builds the structure that enables success, and those relationships need to be made to ensure a strong sense of partnership and mutual trust. This architecture is, however, evolving further. There is an increasing need to be more forward looking or ‘strategic’. We tend to hold common views and values with many of our investors – namely, that we should be trying to make the world a better place, as well as deliver strong returns. As such, we like to speak directly to our investors to get to know them better, without using intermediaries in the fundraising process, to build a long-term, sustainable relationship that will hopefully be in place across a number of vintages. It is great to recall that some of our investors have been with us since we started the business over 15 years ago.

With additional comments from James Livingston at Foresight Group, Peter Linthwaite at Royal London Asset Management (RLAM) & Parminder Basran at VGC Partners.
