Quantum computers edge toward industrialisation

Today’s line between building a quantum computer that impresses in the headlines, versus one that is of commercial value, can only be crossed through error correction. Our portfolio company Riverlane is at the heart of solving this challenging bottleneck.

In a new piece in InformationWeek, Riverlane’s VP of Engineering, Marco Ghibaudi, reframes how the industry should think about the problem. Quantum error correction is not identifying simple flaws to be easily patched, as it is a complex systems challenge.

Getting it right means orchestrating four layers in concert: hardware, control systems, classical processing and software. A genuine QEC system needs all four configured and working together, and most systems today are missing at least one. That gap is precisely what stands between quantum’s promise and its greater adoption.

Marco’s full take on quantum’s march toward industrialisation is worth reading HERE.
